EVM ASIA 2022 EXPO NEWS: SELANGOR TARGET 10,000 EV CHARGING STATIONS BY 2025

The EV industry will accelerate as Malaysia announced a milestone initiative in its 2022 Budget to exempt tax on electric vehicles and incentives for charging installations. The government sees the potential of EVs to help reduce air pollution and to support the development of the local EV industry.

This was announced by the Selangor Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget at the state legislative assembly. He said the state is looking to pioneer EV adoption in line with the recent announcement by the Government to support support the EV industry through tax incentives for EV vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Datuk Amirudin said that the state government and private parties would collaborate on the project, which will involve an investment value of RM10 million. The State would also provide incentives to businesses and industries that invest in EV infrastructure projects, and there would be no public parking charges imposed on EVs next year. “The incentives include a reduction of business fees and assessment tax. Apart from that, parking fees which come under the jurisdiction of the local authorities will also be waived for EV users in 2022,” he explained.
