    KUALA LUMPUR: The National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020, which was launched recently will incorporate three new advanced technology elements namely Next Generation Vehicle, Mobility as a Service and Industrial Revolution 4.0 and projected to contribute RM104.20bil to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030. The NAP 2020 also targets total production volume – comprising passenger vehicle (PV) and commercial vehicle (CV) – of 1.47 million units by 2030.  
    The focus on vehicle technology was a critical development to enhance vehicle safety as well as to make mobility more intelligent and environmentally friendly.

The automotive industry and related sectors have employed more than 600,000 people and contribute 4.0% to Malaysia's gross domestic product and is a key pillar of the economy. There are more than 20 manufacturing and assembly plants in the country producing passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as motorcycles and scooters.

The proposed new Malaysian Vehicle Project will emphasise on research and development (R&D) and the incorporation of the latest technologies in order to be competitive in both domestic and global markets.
